Mitiku Belachew
Mitiku Belachew, born in Ethiopia, was a shepherd of high mountains until the age of 12. He has become an internationally renowned surgeon. This book is the story of this atypical journey.
“This book goes beyond a simple autobiography. It goes well beyond … it is a story that is both anthropological, but also an open window on African Tradition: it notably exposes the different initiatory stages of birth, baptism, death … with particular emphasis on culture. He also develops the sight of Belgium as seen by an Ethiopian who landed there at the age of 20 to study there… He also paints a description of the medical environment.
His book is essentially a work on personal fulfillment, the initiatory narrative of a young high-mountain shepherd man, who by his extreme will and strength of character, manages to overcome the mountains of life to be fully fulfilled. . His story ends symbolically with the rise of Kilimanjaro at the age of 67. »(Olivier Parks)
